The Area
The Stone School is located on the road to Mt.
Greylock State Reservation, just off on Route 7 .in Lanesboro, Massachusetts,
and 19 miles north of exit 2 of the
Massachusetts Turnpike (US 90).
The Old Stone School is the middle of the Berkshires, about
half way between Lenox (Tanglewood) and Williamstown (the Clark Art Institute
and the Williamstown Theatre Festival and the Massachusetts Museum of
Contemporary Art in nearby North Adams). We are less than a mile from the Mount Greylock
Visitor Center and about 10 minutes from Jiminy Peak Ski Area. There is no
better spot to enjoy the fall foliage.
From the Mass Turnpike (US 90)
Take the Mass Pike (US 90), to Exit 2 (Lee), which is
at mile marker 11. After paying toll, take a RIGHT onto Route 20 West.
Route 20 eventually becomes Route 7 North.
Just follow this road for about 19 miles, until you arrive at our street.
You will pass through the towns of Lee, Lenox and Pittsfield before arriving in
Lanesboro. Follow the directions below
From Lenox or Pittsfield
From Lenox, take Route 7 North. In Pittsfield,
you need to watch the signs for Rte 7 carefully. Route 7 turns to the right to
take you around Park Square, in the middle of Pittsfield, and you will then need
to take a left to continue on Route 7.
You'll cross into Lanesboro at the far end of Pontoosuc
Lake. At the streetlight (the only streetlight in Lanesboro), you will see a big
green sign for the Berkshire Mall. Our street, is almost exactly 3 miles north
of this point
After a couple miles, keep an eye out for a
life-sized horse in a cage (at a Tack store) and a stone church (built at the
same time as the schoolhouse) on your left. Just after that, you will see -- on
the right -- a brown sign for Mount Greylock Visitor Center, and then a small
blue sign with a camper on it. Take this RIGHT, onto North Main Street (the
street sign is tiny). (You have gone too far if you pass the Par 4 Mini Golf/Go
Carts sign on your right .)
The schoolhouse is a half mile up the road, on the
right (just after Brookside Farm). We live in the white house next door (#732).
You can park in front of the schoolhouse.
